First drawing in a long time! Thanks to a boot-camp at work which re-kindled my love for drawing.

Software versions

Mid 2008

There was lot of campaigning to create a record downloads for Firefox 3.0 in 24 hours. Like everybody else I upgraded on that day. It was a successful campaign.

Later that year …

Chrome debuted. Though it was missing many features and extensions, I loved the look and feel of the browser. I started to use both Chrome and Firefox for more than a year.

Early 2011

Chrome is my primary browser now. I heard about release of FF4  from a friend of mine who went to a FF4 launch party. I played around with it and I am sure it has improved a ton but -

it’s not Chrome!

Today

I was checking how some scripts will work in FF and I got a popup asking to upgrade to FF8!!! I am very surprised at so many major releases in the last eight months.  What ever happened to minor version number?

The other day I also found out Fedora is at 16. Last one I used was 10 and then moved to Ubuntu more than a year back.

With so many releases - I wonder if major version numbers of software make sense anymore.   Perhaps one should consider time based version numbers  - include year/month/ in major version to keep track of progress.

What do you think?

Believing a belief is very bad until you believe to believe that a particular belief is worth believing.

Believe me!
